The Lower Stanislaus in its natural state would not have sufficient flows during the summer to support rafting or other floating activities as they are known today. Adequate flows for rafting result from hydroelectric and other releases from facilities located at Goodwin Dam and above. These releases are made for power generation and other services and are not subject to the control of Stanislaus County or commercial rafting companies operating under permits from United States Army, Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District.
Great fun and definitely not as crowded as the American River in Sacramento so that's a major plus.
